Art Through Textiles |
|
Jeannette Jackson
Before starting to stitch a textile piece I enjoy the whole process of researching something which has captured my imagination. I love making ‘connections’ – it could be local history, materials and artefacts from other cultures, different techniques or the history and geography of places that I visit.
From this the design process starts and I gradually try to make sense of all the ideas that are buzzing in my head. The use of colour is especially important in my work. I also enjoy the challenge of constructing textile pieces, which comes from the experience of being taught dressmaking by my mother at an early age.
I enjoy working with natural fabrics - wool and silk in particular. Feltmaking is a technique that I particularly enjoy .
