My work is about my love of Landscape, in particular Derbyshire and the North of England. I am excited by the visual impact of change and the power of colour, texture and form brought about by Man’s interaction upon the land.
I am intrigued by the way previous civilisations have moulded the landscape in which we live, Man left his mark on his environment in the form of rock art, standing stones, cairns, tombs and agricultural systems. Just below the surface of our everyday world is the legacy of earlier cultures. The fragments of previous times build layers of history and this evidence of the Past becomes Integrated into the Present.
I mix fabrics and threads in order to express ideas directly from my drawings, adding detail and colour to the surface with paint and print.
