Longshaw Project 2008/9The Moors For The Future Partnership asked ATT to run a Textiles Project at The Moorland Discovery Centre, Longshaw.
During September and October 2008, 6 half-day workshops were held at the Centre The workshops were for a maximum of 15 students from an adult learner group giving adults from different communities an opportunity to meet and learn new skills together. This group was introduced to the area by The National Trust Learning Officer and The Moorland Discovery Learning Officer.
Each workshop was led by an experienced ATT tutor with some volunteer ATT members helping. The workshop titles were: Silk Paper Landscapes, Dyeing using materials from the Estate, Felt made from dyed materials, Proggy Rugs, Stitch on previously made felt and Layered Landscapes.
During November and December 2008, after completion of the 6 workshops, ATT members will finish/mount the pieces ready for exhibiting and they will be kept at the Moorland Centre for educational purposes. The 6 half day workshops will produce some individual pieces and a group piece(s) of Textile Art using many techniques and inspiration drawn from the Longshaw Environment or The Moorland Heritage.
Following a guided tour of the Estate, ATT members have also been invited to create a piece of their own work which may be hung alongside to make a dynamic show. In the New Year 2009, a series of exhibitions were arranged by the National Trust at various venues.
