Pat Hird
I gained a BA (Honours) Fine Art Degree as a mature student in Sheffield in 1987, specialising in printmaking and sculpture, and a HNC in ceramics in 1981. Membership of the Embroiderer’s Guild commenced in 1978 and Art Through Textiles in 1992.
My work often exploits pattern, both as a compositional element and a decorative style. Poetic and symbolic meanings underlie my work rather than realistic representation. Artistic influences include the Arts and Craft Movement, Art Nouveau, Symbolism and Oriental Art.
Technically, I use mixed media and processes, including painting, ceramics, printing, photography, and hand and machine stitching. |
