Art Through Textiles

Peggy Fearne

As an abstract constructivist, currently using both fabrics and paper and employing geometric folding techniques, my aim is to create order, precision and repetition.

Folds are crisp and clean and become edges, catching light and casting shadow.

Fabric can be folded in many ways, vertically, horizontally and diagonally, creating the most complex arrangements, but through repetition order is achieved. Joins are important and create their own pattern, cut ends of monofilament become pinpoints of hard bright colour, a harsh contrast to the natural cotton organdie. I construct a whole from separate parts that retain their own identity.
